Wicstun Vets visit Croft Pre-School in Market Weighton
The Wicstun Vets ‘People Who Help People’ community project continues as vet Emily and vet nurse Claire visited Croft Pre-School in Market Weighton last week. We work together with nurseries, pre-schools and schools in an initiative to help children engage with people who help others.
Emily and Claire were delighted to sit with the group of 20 children aged between 3 – 4 years old. They talked about keeping pets, looking after animals and being kind. They also talked about how vets and veterinary nurses help sick animals to get better.
Much fun was had when the props that Emily and Claire had brought were shared amongst the group – soon there were children trying on scrub tops, masks and gloves (we’re reliably informed that the scrub tops touched the floor, which was tremendously cute!) They used a stethoscope to listen to heartbeats and, under strict supervision, had a go at placing bandages on each other.
Both Emily and Claire were inspired by the school visit and they were as excited as pre-school children when they returned! We’re not sure who enjoyed it more!
The school told us that the children thoroughly enjoyed the session and were talking about it for a long time afterwards.
We do love to help in our local communities – if you have a project that we can help you with then you are most welcome to get in touch.
